The Mullinnix Deck Log below from 11 June 1972 proves that the Mullinnix was in Da Nang Harbor on this date. In my opinion, this makes the Mullinnix' 1972 Vietnam duty "Brown Water" and its crew should qualify for VA benefits for Agent Orange exposure.

Dear Mom, Dad, Sue
This article appeared in “Stars and Stripes” newspaper about 2 weeks ago (This Ship’s Business Is Destroying by Hal Drake - 24 May, Wednesday, 1972 – Pacific Stars and Stripes). I thought you’d like to see it. Still we haven’t shot, oh yes we did, sorry. Night before last we were supposed to shoot 170 rounds, but only got about 130 out before the gun broke down again. We are refueling and replenishing right now. Then go back to the gunline tonight. Only 9 more days till we get off this gunline and 11 before Subic Bay. I can hardly wait. We all need a rest bad. I got a letter from Grandma along with yours. I’m writing to her today also. I told you along time ago that I’d heard about Dado. And yes, the cookies came, thank you. But I told you that already also. Dad, I’ve got about 7 more Time-Life Books you can read. I’ve been reading them on watch. They’re pretty good books. Write when you get a chance. Hope to get home before long. Love, Frank

Dear Grandma,
I received you letter yesterday. Thank you for writing. It makes me feel good, that everybody is thinking of me. As you probably know, I’m in Vietnam on the ship. We sit off the coast and shoot day after day after day. We’ve been gone since April 12th. Nobody knows when we are getting back, sometime between September and January of next year. I hope I can get home for Christmas. I missed the last two in a row. It’s about my turn. Really there isn’t much to write about. Say “hi” to everybody for me! Love your grandson, Frank
