* Mark is the shipmate who went AWOL while Mux was in drydock at Portsmouth, VA after Vietnam. RM3 Hackley Ashby, RMSN Dave Blankenbaker, and Mark were returning back to the ship from the weekend when Mark asked to stop the car so he could "walk-about" (i.e. take a wizz). This was along Interstate 64 at Newport News, VA. Hackley and Dave waited and waited but Mark never returned. His shoes were in the back floor board of the car hence he was barefooted. So ... reporting back to ship, "the authorities" thought Hackley and Dave had robbed poor Mark and bumped him off ... or something. The next day, a search party was formed at the site but no trace could be found of him. Mark turned up about a week (or more) later in Chicago, IL (his home) when the secret service (maybe the CIA) intercepted him at the back door as he was headed to Canada.

Another story for our mates, and the record...
