Unknown
Occassionaly, groups of "river boat" sailors would stop by for a nite of "R & R". Mullinnix would fed them steaks and ice cream , they'd sleep in dry bunks, watch a movie. Here they are with their M-16s. The crew would throw stuff over the side and took turns shooting at it with the M-16s on full automatic. Fun!
Steaks on the fantail

Joe remembers: "We bunked with our heads against Mount 53 carrier room. Between shelling and concussion gernades over the side at night, 6 and 6 (watches) were the order of the day. One time when it was my turn to go on watch, I was barely able to get out of my bunk to go on watch because there were so many empty powder casings piled up by my bunk and Mount 53 had broken the florescent light loose from the overhead and they were hanging down. When they woke me for the watch, I thought we'd been hit. Crazy!"
